Caring Fund

At Baby Moon Midwifery Service we are increasing access to exceptional midwifery care and home birth to all communities and all people who want midwife-provided prenatal, birth and postpartum care. People want to be honored and respected in the way they want to welcome their baby.

Many families want to use a midwife but have trouble affording the fee, even though a midwife typically costs far less than typical OB doctor and hospital charges. You can support our efforts by spreading the word and donating to help a family need to pay for their midwife care, labwork, and ultrasounds!

Make a donation by clicking the "Donate" button above, enter the dollar amount you wish to send, and in the "note" section tell us if you want the money to go to the General Fund or to a Specific Family. To help pay the needs of a Specific Family, please include the name of the mother. All donations over and above the amount needed to pay the account of the Specific Family will be rolled into the General Fund following the close of care for the Specific Family.

Examples

Some examples of situations in which families may be struggling to pay for their own care:

  • Medicaid: Families who qualify for Medicaid who prefer the more personal and attentive care of a midwife. Medicaid does not pay for Certified Professional Midwives and homebirth.
  • Insurance: Families who have health insurance may need help paying costs not covered under their policy: deductibles, co-pays, services not covered.
  • Healthcare Sharing Ministries: Families who are members of a healthcare sharing ministry may have trouble meeting their "personal responsibility" or "annual unshared amount."�
  • Cash: Families who pay cash for their care may need help covering costs, especially if they want to take advantage of our amazing "early-pay discounts," which significantly reduce the total fee involved.

We have been serving the home birth families of southwest Missouri for over 10 years. We are heartbroken to have to turn away healthy women who cannot afford even the smallest cash-discounted package for midwifery care. Over the years, we have bartered with and donated to many of our clients, but the need is growing and we can no longer carry this burden alone.

How It Works

Anyone may make a donatinon to the caring fund. All money will be used to pay for midwife fees, birth supplies, prenatal vitamins, ultrasounds, and lab work for clients in financial need; and to maintain the fund operations (pay credit card processing fees, cost of printing, etc.).

  • Specific Family: You may donate to the fund to contribute to the needs of a specific family. This money will be applied to the balance due for the family you name in the comments section of your donation. Any additional money received for family, over the amount needed to pay their account in full will be transferred to the General Fund. The name of the family/woman will not be shared publicly without consent. Therefore, people donating to that family will need to know about the need from the family themselves, or friends and relatives of the family.
  • General Fund: The money will be used for any family who has applied for help and been approved by the council.

Applicants to the fund will need to fill out an application and are required to follow some basic rules for using the fund. The Caring Fund Council will consider all applications for help from the fund and deny or approve each application individually. The fund cannot run "in the red." If there is no money in the fund, no applications can be approved. To apply for help from the fund, please ask your midwife about applying.

We are not a 501c3 Not-for-profit, therefore you will need to ask your tax professional if your donations to us are tax deductible.
